Naadhalayam – Veena Recital

July 15, 2019   I  VIEW ALL

Naadhalayam was performed by Sri. Dharma Theerthan, a beloved disciple of Ustad Fayaz Khan the renowned Sarangi player and Hindustani Vocalist. Others who accompanied him were Sri. Wilson K. X (Keyboard), Sri. Naveen  Narayanan (Mrudhangam) and Sri. Biju Edappally (Rhythm Composer).

Veena is the national instrument of India. And it is the classical instrument par excellence for rendering Indian Music. It rightly occupies the first place amongst the celebrated Vadya Thrayam: Veena, Venu, Mrudhangam. All the delicate quarter-tones, the subtle nuances and the fine touches can be played with accuracy on this instrument.

Naadhalayam was a pleasant musical experience for everyone gathered. There was harmonious blending of Musical sound (Naadham) and intricate rhythm (Layam) with the well proportioned and sweet sounding combination of Veena, Keyboard, Mrudhangam and Rhythm composer. It was indeed a historical and significant moment for Don Bosco Academy of Music and Fine Arts as it was the first time in its history a Veena recital was arranged and performed. Fr. Yashin Jose, the Director of the Academy proposed the vote of thanks in which he expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to Sri. Dharma Theerthan and his team for their excellent performance. The artistes were honoured with the presentation of the mementos. And everyone from the audience came forward to thank the performers by shaking hands with them.
